FCT Minister Urges Pilgrims to Prioritize Spiritual Growth Over Tourism
In an address to 290 Christian pilgrims departing for Israel and Jordan, the FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud emphasized that pilgrimage is a sacred journey meant to deepen faith and foster spiritual growth, not a leisure trip or sightseeing expedition.
Speaking at the pre-departure orientation for the 2023/2024 pilgrimage exercise, Mahmoud reminded the pilgrims of the spiritual essence of their journey.
Special Adviser to the Minister, Austine Elemue in statement quoted her to have encouraged them to approach the experience with mental and psychological preparedness, viewing it as an opportunity to pray for national unity, peace, and development.
Mahmoud reassured the pilgrims of the government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare and safety during the trip. She highlighted the broader significance of the pilgrimage as a tool for personal transformation and national progress through collective prayers.
Commending the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) led by Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Mahmoud praised its consistent efforts in coordinating successful pilgrimages across the country. She reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s dedication to sustaining its partnership with the Commission and supporting the activities of the FCT Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Echoing the Minister’s sentiments, the Director of the FCT Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Gloria Dandam, emphasized that the pilgrimage is designed not just to visit holy sites but to renew faith and connect with God’s eternal message of peace, love, and hope.
Dandam assured the pilgrims that experts had been carefully selected to guide them during the sacred journey. She also expressed gratitude to the FCT Administration, led by Barrister Nyesom Wike and Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for their continued support in promoting spiritual growth among residents.
As the pilgrims embarked on this life-changing journey, the call for reflection, prayer, and responsibility resonated, reminding them to make the most of the spiritual opportunity.
