Social entrepreneur and philanthropist, Muyideen Okunlola Kayode, has called for a strategic partnership between the government and private grassroots philanthropy to tackle poverty and support vulnerable communities in Nigeria.
Speaking at the Strategic Media Seminar organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sobi FM Chapel, Kayode emphasized the need to align government social investment programs with grassroots philanthropic efforts to maximize impact.
He noted that while grassroots philanthropy—voluntary giving of time, resources, and funds—has been pivotal in addressing societal gaps, it often operates independently, limiting its potential reach and sustainability.
“Collaboration is key,” Kayode said. “Government programs and grassroots initiatives must complement each other to create long-term solutions for poverty alleviation.”
Kayode further challenged the media to play a vital role in driving awareness, promoting partnerships, and holding stakeholders accountable to ensure transparency and efficiency.
Through his MOK Foundation, Kayode has supported over 29,000 people in Kwara State within 18 months, demonstrating the transformative power of grassroots interventions when properly harnessed.
