First Lady’s Elderly Support Initiative Brings Smiles to Abuja Seniors
The Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), spearheaded by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been lauded for its impactful contributions to the well-being of the elderly during its second edition in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the initiative as a beacon of compassion and gratitude for the elderly, emphasizing its significance in fostering respect for senior citizens.
Sp Advuser on Media to FCT Minister of State, Austine Elemue in a statement, quoted the minister to have added that,
“In a fast-paced world, it is vital to pause and appreciate the pillars of our community, the elderly. Their stories, wisdom, and enduring spirits have shaped our collective journey. This initiative reminds us of the importance of their contributions,” Dr. Mahmoud stated.
Themed “Total Wellness: Happiness, Healthy and Prosperous Lifestyle,” the event focused on promoting the holistic well-being of the elderly through financial support, health screenings, and mobility aids.
The Minister praised the First Lady’s vision, noting that the initiative goes beyond material gifts to building a sense of community and belonging among the elderly.
She urged stakeholders to sustain the initiative’s spirit throughout the year.
Mandate Secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Olaniyi, disclosed that 250 elderly beneficiaries each received ₦200,000 cash, 25kg bags of rice, wheelchairs, and medical screenings.
“I am confident that today’s event will leave our beneficiaries happier, healthier, and more prosperous. This demonstrates the First Lady’s deep commitment to uplifting the lives of the elderly,” Dr. Benjamins-Olaniyi said.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude, with many describing the initiative as life-changing.
The event underscores the First Lady’s commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, ensuring they remain valued members of society.
