NASS caucus assures PDP Will Bounce Back, insists Party is greater than Wike, Damagun
Senate minority Leader and key member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus, Senator Abba Moro, has reiterated the party’s commitment to restructuring and regaining its electoral strength.
Speaking after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Assembly caucus meeting on Wednesday, Moro addressed concerns about the party’s recent setbacks and ongoing efforts to prepare for future electoral challenges.
Moro emphasized that the PDP remains resilient despite recent losses, including gubernatorial elections, and is strategizing to strengthen the party.
“We discussed the affairs of the party, particularly as we approach a critical meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC)to take vital decisions on the state of the PDP,” Moro said.
“We are intensifying efforts to ensure the party grows stronger and prepares for subsequent elections without distractions.”
Addressing allegations of vote buying in recent elections, Moro expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“Everyone is worried about Nigeria’s democracy,” he said. “INEC has faced criticism, but every failure is a lesson. We must ensure that mandates stolen from the people, like in Edo State, are restored. Failure should become a mechanism for future success.”
Responding to criticisms of PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, Moro dismissed claims that his leadership has been detrimental to the party.
“The PDP is not just about one individual,” he stated. “Damagun is the acting chairman, but PDP is about all its members. We are working round the clock to return the PDP to its winning ways.”
He also downplayed the influence of PDP members like FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who has been associated with the APC.
Moro likened such political dynamics to bipartisan endorsements seen in the United States, emphasizing that PDP remains focused on rebuilding.
“Anyone working against the PDP today will have to contend with the resilience of PDP members,” he warned.
Highlighting the party’s long-standing reputation, Moro described the PDP as a resilient brand that has always bounced back from challenges.
“PDP is a brand,” he declared. “Despite temporary setbacks, we will bounce back. Once our electoral laws are strengthened, future election results will not be the same.”
When asked who should be blamed for the party’s challenges, Moro refrained from finger-pointing, stating:
“The most important thing is that something is not right. We are working to fix it, and we will get it right.”
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from the PDP Senate caucus to revitalize the party and ensure better outcomes in upcoming elections.

Adeyanju Slams PDP for Expelling Ugochinyere While Wike Remains a Member
Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for expelling House of Representatives member Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, accusing the party of being hypocritical and dysfunctional.
Adeyanju questioned the party’s decision to expel Ugochinyere for alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities while allowing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to remain a member despite his controversial actions.
In a post on X, Adeyanju stated, “Ikenga Ugochinyere, the courageous one, has been expelled for anti-party by APC moles who are in charge of PDP, but Wike is still a member of the PDP. The jokes write themselves daily. The PDP is a dead party awaiting funeral rites.”
His comments reflect growing disillusionment with the PDP’s internal dynamics, as the party struggles with leadership issues and public perception. Ugochinyere’s expulsion, following a report by the party’s disciplinary committee, has sparked further criticism, with many questioning the party’s commitment to fairness and consistency in handling its members.

PDP Expels Rep Ikenga Ugochinyere for Breaching Party Rules, Anti-Party Activities
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the House of Representatives member for Ideato North/Ideato South in Imo State, over serious allegations of indiscipline and anti-party behavior.
In a letter issued on December 5, 2024, the Ideato LGA chapter of the PDP announced Ugochinyere’s expulsion, citing his failure to adhere to party norms. According to the disciplinary committee’s report, Ugochinyere was found guilty of a series of offenses, including neglecting to attend party meetings, spreading unauthorized information about internal disputes, and establishing rival party structures at the ward, LGA, and national levels. His repeated public criticisms and derogatory statements against the party and its leaders were also flagged as actions that harmed the party’s image.
This decision follows a suspension issued earlier in October 2024, after Ugochinyere failed to respond to disciplinary summons. The party leadership emphasized that his actions were in clear violation of PDP’s constitution, leading to his expulsion with immediate effect. Ugochinyere is now officially no longer a member of the PDP.

PDP NWC Rejects Ikenga Ugochinyere’s Expulsion, Affirms His Membership
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the expulsion of House of Representatives member Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere from his ward chapter in Imo State as null and void.
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP declared that Ugochinyere remains a legitimate member of the party, despite the expulsion by the Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward chapter over alleged indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities.
The disciplinary action was based on a report from the party’s disciplinary committee, which had investigated Ugochinyere for misconduct. The NWC emphasized that the expulsion did not follow the party’s constitutional procedures and is therefore ineffective.
In response, local government chairmen of the PDP in Imo State reaffirmed Ugochinyere as the party’s leader in the state, praising his leadership and calling for the removal of the acting national chairman and secretary to revitalize the party.
