Governor Okpebholo Appoints Six New Leaders to Strengthen Edo State’s Governance
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced six key appointments to drive strategic initiatives in education, security, waste management, and public infrastructure.
The appointments take effect on November 15, 2024, as shared by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Secretary to the State Government.
These were contained in a statement issued by Chief Press Secretary Fred Itua.
Below are the appointees and their new roles:
1. Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu – Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB): An Oxford alumnus with expertise in security and crisis management, Dr. Iyamu was previously CEO of Gabbem Integrated Services Ltd., and brings over 15 years in the banking, oil, and gas sectors.
2. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi – Managing Director, State Waste Management Board: An experienced leader with degrees in Human Resources and Strategic Leadership, Inegbenehi was formerly CEO of JEI Visions Iron Metals and Cleaning Services.
3. CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd.) – State Corps Commander, Edo State Security Corps Governance: A retired police officer with 35 years of service, including UN missions, CP Ibadin holds degrees in Philosophy and Law, and was called to the Bar in 2007.
4. Mr. Stainless M.I. Ijeghede – Managing Director, Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA): A Mechanical Engineer and Shell Petroleum Development Company retiree, Ijeghede has extensive experience in Well Engineering and Safety.
5. Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe – Managing Director, Edo State Public Building and Maintenance Agency: A lawyer with LL.B. and LL.M. degrees from Ambrose Alli University, Eseigbe has served as a Legislative Aide and Adviser to National Assembly members since 2007.
6. Engr. Emmanuel Ehidiamen Okoebor – Commissioner of Finance-designate: With over 25 years in banking, Okoebor holds a Civil Engineering degree and an MBA, and is a COREN-certified engineer currently serving as a Regional Manager at UBA.
Itua stated that the appointments underscored Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to bolstering Edo State’s development and public service efficiency.

Edo Partners Aviation Company for Aircraft Assembly, Training Centre
In a groundbreaking move to boost economic development and create employment opportunities, the Edo State Government has entered into a partnership with an aviation company to establish a light aircraft assembly plant in Benin City.
The initiative will also include training programs for Edo citizens in various aviation fields, such as aircraft mechanics and pilot training.
Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Gani Audu, and other top government functionaries, officially launched the collaboration at the Benin Airport, where they also participated in a test flight aboard a light aircraft.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua quoted him to have after the test flight, highlighted the significance of the initiative:
“This is a new era for Edo people. I just flew in the aircraft, and it was a smooth experience. During my campaign, I promised to transform Edo State, and this is a testament to that promise.
“The aviation company will establish an assembly plant here, providing an opportunity for our youth to learn critical skills in aviation. This investment is a major step toward reducing unemployment and creating wealth in Edo State.
“My administration is fully committed to supporting this endeavor as part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Governor emphasized that the benefits of the project will extend to all three senatorial districts in the state, ensuring equitable development.
CEO of the partnering aviation company, Ehis Odia, commended Governor Okpebholo for his visionary leadership:
“Governor Okpebholo has shown remarkable foresight in advancing aviation in Edo State. We will establish a factory here to assemble light aircraft and initiate training programs for secondary and technical school students to become aircraft mechanics.
“Edo will become the first state in Nigeria where aircraft assembly takes place, breaking the misconception that aviation is only for the wealthy. This initiative will make aviation accessible and effective for all.”
Pilot Donovan Lombard, who participated in the test flight, expressed the aviation company’s mission to enhance transportation in Nigeria:
“We’ve been flying aircraft from South Africa and are excited to bring aviation to Edo State, where it will help improve transportation and industrial development.”

Gov Okpebholo Pledges Collaboration with Traditional institution for Peace in Edo State
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his commitment to partnering with traditional rulers to address insecurity and other challenges at the grassroots level.
The Governor made this pledge during a meeting with traditional rulers from Edo North, emphasizing the vital role they play in maintaining peace and security.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua in a statement quoted him to have acknowledged the historical significance of traditional institutions, noting that they were the first line of defense in community security.
Governor Okpebholo highlighted his administration’s respect for traditional institutions, referencing the recent restoration of the statutory rights of the Oba of Benin. He remarked, “Royal fathers are strong instruments for internal security. My administration will work closely with you to ensure peace and development.”
He assured the traditional rulers that any encroachment on their rights would be addressed, promising to investigate grievances thoroughly.
“We will look into any issues raised, and those who have taken what belongs to you will be made to return it,” the Governor said.
In response, HRH Oba Idogu III, the Olokpe of Okpe and leader of the delegation, commended the Governor’s approach. He criticized the previous administration, led by Godwin Obaseki, for undermining traditional institutions, particularly in Akoko-Edo. “The last administration caused significant harm by granting staff of office to village heads without following due process,” he noted.
The meeting reflected Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to fostering collaboration with traditional leaders to ensure peace, stability, and development across Edo State.

Edo Gov Courts Investors, Pledges Business-Friendly State
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, has pledged to create a business-friendly environment to attract more investors to the state.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua in a statement indicated that during an inspection of a private steel manufacturing company in Ogua Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, on Tuesday, the governor lauded the company’s contributions to job creation and economic growth.
“We appreciate your investment in Edo. Your contributions to employment and the economy are invaluable, and we are committed to ensuring businesses thrive,” Okpebholo said.
He urged the company to promote Edo indigenes to management positions and fulfill their corporate social responsibility to the community.
Frank Wang, Managing Director of the company, representing Chairman Xianghai Zhang, congratulated the governor on his inauguration and pledged to collaborate with his administration to attract more investors.
“We will work with you to create a business-friendly environment and drive economic development,” Wang said.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s focus on partnerships to foster economic growth and sustainable development in Edo State.
