Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has outlined a bold plan to generate over N20 billion in revenue for the 2025 fiscal year as part of his administration’s tax reform strategy. This ambitious goal includes a strong focus on prosecuting tax defaulters and improving overall compliance with tax laws.

Dr. Zaid Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS), emphasized that the reforms are not about raising taxes but about enhancing the efficiency of revenue collection He also highlighted that the restructuring of KIRS, including the appointment of a new management team, has already yielded positive results.
The Governor is expected to introduce a new model for tax collection, aimed at significantly boosting the state’s revenue and supporting key developmental initiatives.

Community stakeholders in Zinyau, Rano Local Government Area, have expressed grave concern over the low enrollment and attendance of Fulani nomadic children in schools, calling for urgent action to address the issue.

The concerns were highlighted during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru by a delegation.
Zonal Information Officer, Rabiu Khalil Kura in a statement listed members of the delegation to include the Village Head of Zinyau, Alhaji Cantata Muhammad; Head Teacher of Zinyau Central Primary School, Abdulmalik Shehu; teachers; and students.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Abdulmalik Shehu described the situation as “worrisome” and emphasized the importance of improving educational opportunities for Fulani children.

“We are deeply concerned about the poor enrollment and attendance of Fulani children in the Zinyau community and Rano L.G. in general.
They are an integral part of our society, and their education should be a collective priority,” Shehu stated.

The delegation also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for enhancing the learning environment at Zinyau Primary School by providing sufficient materials and furniture.

The Village Head, Alhaji Cantata Muhammad, called on stakeholders in Kano State to give greater attention and support to nomadic education, underscoring the urgent need to address the educational challenges faced by Fulani children.

Responding to the delegation, the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Dr. Muhammad Isa Umaru, represented by the Wazirin Rano, Alhaji Kabiru Sani, expressed appreciation for their concerns. He assured them of the Emirate Council’s commitment to addressing the issue and mobilizing the Fulani community to prioritize education.

The Emirate Council pledged to intensify efforts to ensure that Fulani children in the region have better access to education.

Hundreds of members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, Kano State, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a political gathering held in Dawakin Kudu town, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, officially received the defectors. Represented by the State Party Secretary, Alhaji Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, Abbas praised the courage of the defectors, describing their decision as a step towards liberating Kano from what he termed the “failure of the NNPP government.”

Abbas noted, “The way people are trooping into the APC is a clear testimony of the NNPP’s failure, a government that came into power by accident. Good people of Kano will not allow it to continue beyond 2027.”

He urged party members to unite, forgive past differences, and work towards restoring the confidence of Kano residents in the APC’s vision for addressing the state’s socio-economic challenges.

In his remarks, Hon. Mustapha Bala Dawakin, former representative of Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, described the influx of new members as encouraging and a sign that the APC is poised to reclaim Kano in the 2027 elections.

The leader of the defectors, Hon. Suleiman Dalibi Yargaya (Sardaunan Matasa), a former NNPP candidate for the Kano State House of Assembly, stated that he and over 12,000 of his political associates from 303 polling units across the 15 wards of Dawakin Kudu had left the NNPP to join the APC.

“We thought NNPP had a mission to move Kano to prosperity, but nearly two years into their administration, there is nothing to show. Instead, they have tarnished the state’s traditions and commercial heritage,” Yargaya said.

He pledged loyalty to the APC and promised to work towards the party’s success in returning Kano to prosperity.

“As we join APC today, we promise to be faithful members and dedicate ourselves to the development of the party and achieving its ultimate goals of making Kano State prosperous and great,” Yargaya concluded.

The event underscored the ongoing political realignments in Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.
