The Chairman of Rano Local Government Area, Hon. Muhammad Naziru Yau, has committed to addressing the persistent conflicts between farmers and herders, promising to create a peaceful environment where both groups can coexist harmoniously.
This pledge was made during a public hearing on the 2024 budget held at the Rano Local Government Secretariat.
Zonal Information Officer, Rabiu Khalil Kura in a statement made available to the National Update quoted Hon. Naziru to have emphasized his administration’s resolve to prevent any further encroachment on grazing routes and to foster an atmosphere free from discord.
“We will ensure a harmonious and friendly environment, free of rancor, where farmers and herders can engage in their activities without conflict,” he stated.

In attendance at the hearing was the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, who was represented by Dahiru Sanda Ibrahim, Director of Agricultural Services at the Ministry for Local Government.
He highlighted the need for Rano to diversify its revenue sources and reduce reliance on federal allocations, urging the local government to explore alternative funding to support sustainable development.

“Over-dependence on monthly allocations from the federal government will not be sustainable for the council. Rano must diversify its sources of income to ensure continued development,” said Ibrahim.

The Village Head of Shangu, Alhaji Sabo Bello, also addressed the gathering, appealing for a healthcare clinic to be built in Shangu and for improved road connectivity between Rano and Shangu to enhance agricultural transportation.

The event saw a strong turnout, including village heads, ward heads, councillors, department heads, and representatives from various community groups and associations, all gathered to discuss the local government’s 2024 fiscal plans.
