Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has commended the Federal Government for transforming the Federal College of Education (FCE) Kontagora into a degree-awarding institution.
The upgrade was officially inaugurated on Wednesday by the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu.
Speaking at the event, Bago, represented by his Special Adviser on Governance and Reform, Dr. Isah Adamu, emphasized the vital role the new Federal University of Education will play in shaping the educational framework of both the state and the nation.
He extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication to improving education in Nigeria.
“This university will serve as a beacon of hope, training well-prepared educators who will inspire future generations,” Bago stated.
He described the institution not just as an academic center, but as a hub for intellectual growth and innovation, aimed at producing educators equipped to meet the demands of modern classrooms.
Governor Bago acknowledged the challenges facing Nigeria’s education sector, including inadequate infrastructure and limited resources. However, he expressed optimism that the establishment of the university would be a critical step in overcoming these obstacles.
