Tragic Petrol Tanker Accident Claims Over 100 Lives in Jigawa

A devastating petrol tanker accident in Majiya village, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has reportedly claimed the lives of over 100 people, with more than 50 individuals hospitalized.

The incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Tuesday when the driver of a petrol tanker, en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State, lost control of the vehicle. The tanker overturned, causing its contents to spill into nearby gutters and drainages.

Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, confirmed the accident, stating that the driver lost control at approximately 12:30 AM. As the villagers began to collect the spilled fuel, the situation escalated into a catastrophic fire.

According to DSP Shiisu, “95 people have been confirmed dead, and over 50 are currently receiving treatment for injuries.” He urged the community to avoid dangerous situations involving fuel spills in the future.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the region, highlighting the dangers associated with fuel transportation and the need for heightened safety measures.
