In the wake of severe flooding that has devastated local communities, Hon. Solomon Osomegbe, Chairman of Etsako Central, has launched a comprehensive response to assist those affected. Following an urgent request for help from elders in Udaba Ekperi, Osomegbe visited the 11 communities impacted by the flood on Wednesday.

The flooding has caused significant destruction, displacing over 2,000 residents, submerging more than 100 homes, and destroying vast areas of farmland. Describing the situation as “pathetic,” Osomegbe has called upon the State Emergency Management Authority and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for assistance.

To provide immediate relief, the council has initiated the rehabilitation of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ekperi, where those displaced by the flood will find shelter. Additionally, plans are in place to distribute food and emergency supplies to those in need.

Osomegbe emphasized the council’s commitment to preventing potential disease outbreaks, convening an emergency meeting to implement health measures in light of the flooding. The Chairman’s proactive approach underscores the local government’s dedication to supporting the community during this crisis and ensuring the well-being of affected residents.

As efforts continue to address the urgent needs of those impacted, the local government remains focused on restoring stability and providing relief to the flood-stricken communities.
