In a groundbreaking move, the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy has announced a powerful partnership with the Lagos International Festival of Animation (LIFANIMA) 2024
This marks a major step forward in revolutionizing Nigeria’s animation sector.
A statement by the special Adviser on Media and Publicity indicated that the collaboration, spearheaded by Honourable Minister, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa, is set to propel the nation’s creative industry to new heights through the launch of an ambitious Animation Capacity Building Programme under the Creative Leap Acceleration Programme (CLAP).
Announcing the partnership on Monday, Musawa emphasized that the initiative is a demonstration of the Ministry’s commitment to empowering local animators, boosting the quality of Nigerian animation, and positioning the country as a global player in the industry, which is projected to reach $600 billion by 2030.
LIFANIMA, now in its seventh year, has established itself as Africa’s premier animation festival, providing a platform for showcasing Nigerian talent, advancing animation technology, and creating opportunities for capacity development.
According to the statement, the festival is set to play a vital role in raising the profile of local animators while promoting cultural heritage and tourism.
Explaing further it indicated that with the partnership, the Ministry aims to elevate Nigeria’s creative economy, focusing on enhancing storytelling and production quality, developing local talent, and positioning Nigeria as a top destination for animation festivals globally.
Musawa declared: “This collaboration with LIFANIMA highlights our dedication to using the creative economy as a tool for economic diversification and cultural preservation. We are excited to see the growth and impact this partnership will have on Nigeria’s animation industry and beyond!”
