Sexual Harrasment: MARF Demands Nigerian Army make Full Disclosure on Female Soldier’s Discharge
The Men Against Rape Foundation (MARF) has demanded for full transparency from the Nigerian Army regarding the discharge of Private Ruth Ogunleye, who accused senior officers, including Colonel I.B Abdulkareem, of sexual harassment. The Army claimed Ogunleye was discharged for mental health reasons, a claim she denies, insisting she resigned voluntarily.
In a statement signed by MARF’s Executive Director, Dr. Lemmy Ughegbe, and Director of Strategic Development, Dr. Augustine Eigbe, the organization demanded that the Army release the full investigation report that cleared Colonel Abdulkareem of the allegations.
They stressed the need for transparency and accountability to ensure public trust in the military’s handling of such sensitive cases.
MARF also questioned the conflicting reasons given for Ogunleye’s departure and called for an independent review of the case. The group urged Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy, to clarify her role in the process, as mentioned by Ogunleye.
MARF pledged to continue monitoring the case, reaffirming their commitment to advocating for justice, fairness, and the protection of survivors of sexual harassment within Nigeria’s institutions.
