The Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party(SDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Adewale Adebayo has shared his thoughts on the recently concluded 2024 Edo State Governorship Election, offering a sharp critique of the political dynamics in the country. According to Adebayo, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is actively involved in practical politics, while the opposition is more focused on political theory, leaving the Nigerian electorate to engage in a form of “actuarial science,” a reference to their calculated voting patterns.

Adebayo pointed out the disparity between the electorate’s desire for change and their voting behavior, as many voters either stayed home or continued to support the established political parties.
He emphasized that for the sake of democracy’s survival, this gap must be addressed before the 2027 elections.

He also commended Labour Party candidate Olumide Akpata for running a credible campaign that challenged the notion that Edo people had no alternative to the APC or PDP.
Despite this, Adebayo noted that the electorate’s hunger for change did not translate into votes, as voter turnout remained low.

Concluding his statement, Adebayo vowed not to give up on the Nigerian people, urging for deeper engagement and a stronger effort to change the political landscape. He wished the people of Edo State well and prayed for the continued progress of Nigeria.
