Niger speaker mourns death of member, Hon Joseph Haruna

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, has expressed shock and sadness over the sudden demise of Hon. Joseph Haruna Duza, a member representing Munya State Constituency.

Hon. Haruna, a retired Airforce officer, passed away on Friday at a private hospital in Minna after a brief illness. His death has been described as a painful loss by the Speaker, who remembered him as a vibrant member whose contributions on the floor of the house will be greatly missed.

Untill his demise, late Hon. Haruna was the Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Security and Intelligence and had attended a security meeting in the house just last week.
His death has sent shockwaves through the assembly, with the Speaker praising his dedication and commitment to serving the people of Niger State.

The Speaker’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mallam Shamsudeen Lawal Binaira in a statement on his behalf expressed condolences to the family and constituents of the late Hon. Haruna.

According to him, the contribution of the late lawmaker to development of his Constituency within this short period in the state assembly remained unequaled as he was very consistent and vocal over the security situation bedevilling his Munya constituency and the state in general.
He pointed out that the late Duza as he was popularly called during plenary by fellow members offered quality representation of his Constituency regardless of party affiliation.
“He will not only be missed by his immediate family, his Constituency and the state house of assembly, but the entire state. He was very passionate on the issues of security in his Constituency and the state in general”, the speaker added.
He therefore prayed that God Almighty grant his soul eternal rest and give the family, the people of his Constituency the state tate House of Assembly the fortitude to bear this loss.
