The newly Promoted Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Benneth Igweh has inaugurated a new Police Divisional Headquarters in Igu, Bwari Area Coucil in the FCT, to tackle insecurity and boost safety in the region.
The inauguration of the Igu Police Divisional Headquarters is a major milestone in the efforts to enhance security in the Bwari Area Council, and is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of residents.
Igwe who is the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police before his elevation rexebtly expressed his relief and satisfaction with the development
Igweh indicated that the new division will cover several villages, including Veritas University, Zuma 1, Zuma 2, Gaba, Tukulu, Chere, and Kawu, and will help to dominate ungoverned spaces and ensure the security of residents.
According to him, Igu is one of the places that have been giving the command headache in terms of insecurity.
AIG Igweh noted that the establishment of the division is a significant step towards sustaining the fight against insecurity, and not just driving out bandits and kidnappers.
He observed that the residents are already showing signs of relief and happiness, with many returning to their farms.
“I am fully relieved because the establishment of this police division has been one of the issues we are using to dominate the ungoverned spaces, the unpoliced spaces of Bwari
“You can see their happiness. They are going back to the farms. What we have been able to do is that we have been able to secure them. So far, so good.
“It’s not about attacking and moving the bandits out of Bwari or the kidnappers out of Bwari, but sustaining the fight, sustaining the attack.
“That is what has brought this police division here because we want to sustain the security we have so far established and put in place in Bwari area.
“So, this Igu police station is the third police division in Bwari area council. I have done the first one, that is the Oshafa police division, and this one is the second one since a few months I took over, all in the bid to ensure that Bwari is secured.
“So, this one fulfills part of my heart and part of my dream to give the people of Bwari area council and FCT as a whole a sense of belonging in security palace.
“So, we are happy the chairman is here. He has done a lot to support us to establish this. And the villagers, all the traditional rulers, you can see all of them, they are all here to give their support.
“The most important thing is that they are back to their farms. They are back to their villages. They are secured in their villages, you can see their expression.
“It gladdens my heart that the idea of dominating the area as preached by the IG as well as the minister of FCT we are helping them to fulfill it. God bless them.”
He said he is happy and so fulfilled to have ensured the security of life and property in FCT as a whole and bwari area council in particular.
“Because, before I took over here, this place used to be the area of the kidnappers and bandits.’
He said a few meters away kidnappers used to abduct dozens because of the proximity to Gidandogo forest, Kuheri forest and the Kajaruku Forest
“So, we have decided to secure our people and we are now having men in areas like Gidandogo. Our men are there. We have pursued the bandits there. Our men in the Kuheri forest, we have pursued the bandits there. So, this village is secured for everybody to do any business. So, we have achieved what we want to achieve and we are fulfilled. I pray they sustain it which is what we are doing now. ”
The Chairman of Bwari Area Council, John Gabaya at the ocasion announced the donation of a brand new Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Igu Divisional Police, in a bid to boost security in the region.
Speaking at the event, Gabaya expressed his gratitude to the President, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and the security officials for their efforts in bringing security to the doorsteps of the people. He noted that the presence of the security post has significant economic value, as it will enable farmers and business owners to go about their activities without fear.
Gabaya recalled that just over a year ago, the community was plagued with insecurity, and people were unable to go to their farms or engage in their usual activities.
However, he said with the establishment of the police division, the situation has changed, and many are now able to go about their businesses.
The Chairman expressed his appreciation for the security presence in Igu division, saying that it has brought immense value to the community, and prayed for God’s continued protection.
