Overwhelmed by the wide publicity given to his remark against Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,
last Thursday, President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has tendered a public apology.

Last Thursday, at the hallowed chamber of the senate during a plenary session, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, rose to speak on an issue, in response, Senate President, Akpabio publicly reprimanded her, instructing her to seek permission before addressing the chamber, asserting that the Senate floor is not a “night club.”

The choice of words and manner in which Senator Akpabio addressed Senator Natasha has been met with significant backlash from both traditional and social media circles.
Many have criticized the Senate President’s remarks as vulgar, irresponsible, and demeaning, particularly considering his role as the third-highest-ranking official in the country.

Tendering an apology yesterday, Akpabio said it was never his intention to denigrate Natasha and women in general.

Speaking on the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday, Akpabio said he would never intentionally denigrate any woman.

He said his phone and that of his wife have been inundated with calls and text messages since Thursday lamenting that most of those calls and messages were insults.

“I will not intentionally denigrate any woman and I always pray that God will uplift women. Distinguished Senator Natasaha, I want to apologise to you.” The Senate President stated.

According to him, “The interest shown in this matter on the social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward.

The Senate President warns social media practitioners to ensure decorum in the practice of their profession adding that “We won’t out of anger regulate social media.”

Akpabio also denied claims that he has “numerous girlfriends”.

“I have only one wife and she is enough for me,” he said
