Southern/Northern Senators’ forums condemn suicide Bombing in Borno, commiserate with the people
The Nigerian Southern Senators Forum and their counterparts in the North have condemned in strong terms the heinous suicide bombing attacks that took place in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, Borno State on Saturday 22nd June, 2024 bomb, which claimed the lives of at least 18 persons and injured numerous others.
In separate statements the chairmen of the Forums commiserates with the people of Borno as they called for more collective, collaborative and robust response to contain terrorism in the country
A statement which was signed by the chairman and secretary of the Southern Senators Forum, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Senator Barinada Mpigi, reads,
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the barbaric attack and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by this senseless act of violence.
“These heinous acts of terrorism are a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges facing our nation. The despicable act once again highlights the urgent need for a collective, collaborative and robust response to terrorism in our country. We call upon the federal government and all security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians. Those responsible for this atrocity must be swiftly brought to justice.
“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s swift condemnation of the attacks and the resolve of his administration to bring the perprators to book, and the re-assurance to continue to secure the lives and properties of citizens.
“The Southern Senators Forum extends its deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. We remain steadfast in our commitment to work with all stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and security across Nigeria.
“The Forum stands in solidarity with the Northern Senators Forum, and with the government and people of Borno State in this time of grief.
The forum however commended the resilience and bravery of the people and the sacrifice of the security forces who continue to fight against the evil forces to protect our country.
“We call on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and support our security agencies in their efforts to protect our nation.
“The Forum will continue to support measures by the Senate to provide greater support, better equipment, and enhanced welfare for these gallant men and women to boost their morale and effectiveness in the fight against terrorism.
“Together, we will overcome this challenge and build a safer, more peaceful Nigeria.
Also in a condolence and assurance message from the Northern Senators Forum signed by it chairman, Sen Abdulaziz Musa Yaradua the Forum commended the gallantry of officers of the Nigerian Army and the resilience of the people of Borno
The message reads in Part,
“The Northern Senators Forum shares in the profound sorrow and anguish that has befallen the community of Gwoza following the devastating events of June 29, 2024.
“The horrific acts of violence, as relayed by Dr. Barkindo M. Saidu, DG Borno SEMA, have shattered our hearts and tested our resilience.
“We stand united in condemning the cowardly deeds of those who seek to spread fear and chaos among our peaceful communities.
“The loss of innocent lives and the suffering inflicted upon families in Gwoza have deeply wounded us all. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have been bereaved and the individuals fighting for their lives in the aftermath of this senseless tragedy.
“We salute the unwavering courage and dedication of the medical teams, rescue workers, and the Nigerian Army who have responded with valor and selflessness in the face of adversity.
“Your commitment to preserving lives in the midst of turmoil exemplifies the true spirit of service and sacrifice.
“As representatives of the Northern Senators Forum, we stand in solidarity with you, unwavering in our commitment to seeking justice and holding accountable those responsible for these vile acts.
“We pledge to work tirelessly to reinforce security measures, ensure swift responses to threats, and prevent the recurrence of such atrocities.
The Northern Senators Forum adamantly declared that the scourge of Boko Haram and all forms of terrorism will find no haven in their land.
“Together, we will confront these forces of darkness with determination and unity, safeguarding our communities and upholding the sanctity of peace and security for all.
“May the departed souls find eternal peace, and may the wounded find comfort and healing in the compassion and support extended to them during this sorrowful period.”
