    Ugwumba Leadership Center awards full scholarship to teenage girl rescued from Ghana

    The Ugwumba Leadership Center has awarded scholarship to one of the rescued 10 teenage girls lured to Ghana for prostitution who had since been rescued and repatriated back to Nigeria.
    President of Ugwumba Leadership Center for Africa, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu said after discussing with the parents of Miss Divine Asuzu; one of the rescued girls who hailed from Amaokpara community in Nkwerre LGA, Imo State the center has awarded her a full scholarship to study in any of the Government Universities in Nigeria.
    Miss Asuzu had indicated interest to continue with her education.
    Recall that the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM),
    Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had indicated that over 10 teenage girls trafficked to Ghana have been rescued.
    In a series of videos that went viral on Twitter on Friday, the young girls between the ages of 15 and 18 were said to have been lured into prostitution in Ghana.
    They were reportedly rescued by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO).
    Nwosu commended Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State for being proactive in the rescue of the underage trafficked girls.
    He also expressed appreciation to those in Diaspora who identified and raised alarm that led to their rescue.
    In his own words,
    “With respect to the teenage girls repatriated from Ghana, Let me sincerely commend the Governor of Imo State His Excellency Senator Hope Uzodimma for swiftly seeing to the rescue of the underage trafficked girls back home, and at the same time appreciate those in Diaspora who identified and raised alarm that led to their rescue.

    “Beautiful people, this is not the time to pass judgement on those young girls who may have already passed through emotional and psychological trauma.
    “Let’s embrace them with love and help them regain their place of honor and value in the society.

    “As an organisation that promotes youth development in Africa, we hereby award her a full scholarship to study in any of the Government Universities in Nigeria.
    “Meanwhile, before her admission, we have also approved to place her on a monthly upkeep allowance.

    “Special thanks to the Board and Management of the Ugwumba Leadership Center for making this possible.”
