The Kogi State House of Assembly has on Wednesday called on security agencies in the state to provide adequate security cover for the Assembly Complex in view of the high profile cases of kidnaping and general insecurity in the state.

The House made the call in a resolution following the adoption of a motion moved by the Speaker, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf at plenary on Wednesday in Lokoja.

The Speaker decried the high profile cases of kidnapping across the state and expressed concern over the security of the legislators, staff and the entire Assembly complex.

Yusuf said the lawmakers and and the complex were no longer safe noting that the most of the security personnel securing the complex and the legislators were not armed and would find it difficult to repel an attack.

He therefore urged the security agencies to deploy more armed personnel to the complex to secure lives and property.

Rt Hon. Yusuf pleaded that the situation should not be allowed to deteriorate to the level where the Assembly would be forced to embark on self-help with “our own internal security.”

The Speaker therefore, directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Chogudo, to open line of communication with Heads of security agencies in the state and intimate them with the resolution of the Assembly for immediate action.

“In view of recent security challenges in our Country and also our dear State, it is important that we beef up security here at the Assembly complex before, during and after sitting.

“The Clerk of the House should intimate the various security agencies that they should provide armed security personnel to safeguard this complex during and even after sittings”, He said.

The Legislators adopted the motion following an overwhelming voice votes in its support. (Ends)
