Kogi East senator condemns killing of 19 persons in Agojeju Odo
The Senator representing Kogi East in the National Assembly Isah Jibrin (Echocho), has condemned the killing of 19 persons and the burning of over 50 houses in Agojeju Odo in Omala Local Government Area of the state,
A statement issued by his special adviser on media, Mikail Ibrahim, on Friday described the development as worrisome and intolerable saying that he had directed the relevant authority to visit the area and get to the root of the killings, insisting that the situation must be brought under control immediately to prevent further degeneration.
Echocho in the statment charged the relevant authority to arrest those involved in the killings and ensure they are made to face the full weight of the law.
According to him, while the investigation is ongoing, the machinery for dialogue, reconciliation and confidence building should be vigorously pursued by the Peace Building Agency.
He commiserated with the families of those killed, as he admonished that all citizens must be security conscious by avoiding any conduct that would jeopardise peaceful coexistence in the state.
The lawmaker therefore urged the government and the security agencies, which have the mandatory constitutional responsibility of securing lives and property, to secure and protect law-abiding citizens and the community of Ogojeju Odo and bring the culprits to justice.
