Senator Natasha Advocates prompt recognition, rewards for Armed Forces Heroes
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central senatorial district, has called for acknowledgment and honor for Nigeria’s Armed Forces heroes while they are alive.
This appeal was made during the commemoration of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Abuja.
Speaking on the celebration of fallen heroes who gave their tomorrow for our today, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan reiterated the need for prompt recognition and rewards for the gallant soldiers currently safeguarding the country amid growing security challenges.
Expressing concern over recent tragic events, including the death of Nabeeha and the captivity of her sisters, the Senator urged the government to take immediate action to ensure that the sacrifices of these heroes are duly rewarded during their lifetime.
Comparing Nigeria Armed Forces with the United States Armed Forces, she canvassed for the adoption of a comprehensive system of awards, decorations, and compensation benefits to motivate Nigerian soldiers and their families.
The lawmaker noted that Nigeria, despite being rich in both human and non-human resources, faces significant challenges such as insecurity and economic woes.
She stressed the necessity for recognizing and rewarding the efforts of the Armed Forces, she insisted that there was need for tangible benefits such as paid vacation, housing support, and financial consultations to boost their morale.
While honoring the bravery of the Armed Forces, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also acknowledged the painful losses endured by the Nigerian people. She called for collective remembrance of fallen heroes and the many unrecognized military personnel dedicated to ensuring the safety of citizens.
