National Coordinator and Country representative of African Human Rights Defence, Dr Suleiman Shaibu Shinkafi hask urged President B ola Tinubu to pardon the embattled former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke
Who has been embroiled in a legal battle over corruption charges.
Speaking against the backdrop that she has owned up to having contributed to impoverishing the country when she held sway as the Minister of Petroleum Resources by helping herself from the Commonwealth of the nation to the tune of $9b, the activist said it is proper to pardon her so thayp return to the country to help the government recover the money from those she gave the money for safe keeping.

Diezani Alison-Madueke

“I want to use this opportunity to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Nigerian President to immediately accept the request of the former Minister of Petroleum Deziani Alison Madueke to be pardoned and allowed to return to the country for two reasons.

“The human Rights Organization is worried about her indictment of the a sitting governor, whom she claimed to have left $9b in his custody for safe keeping when he was the Managing Director of a first generation bank.
According to him, the former Minister alleged further that the money is still with him and he has not made any effort to return the money to Nigeria or to her.
“Instead he has been avoiding her calls, he blacklisted her and all her lawyers and her husband and family members are aware of their relationship and the transaction and the money she gave him for safe keeping.”
Explaining further he said the former Minister confessed that the money belongs to Nigeria as she accepted the fact that she misappropriated her office during her tenure. “She accepted the fact that the money she took was illegal, she admitted to have stolen Nigerian money and betrayed her country. “The country trusted her by giving her the position of a minister during the tenure of President Goodluck Jonathan.

“She is now ready to expose those who collaborated with her. I think she should be given a chance and the honor for her to comeback to Nigeria and expose those she gave the money. “Anybody found wanting should be prosecuted immediately.
If her claim against a serving governor in Nigeria is proven to be true that he is guilty of collecting $9b then he should be prosecuted.
“The immunity must be lifted and he must be handed over to the relevant authority for prosecution immediately because $9b is not N900m, we are talking about $9b equivalent to N26tr. This is madness.

He challenged the governor to come clean by speaking out
“If it is not true, then let the governor come out publicly to denounce the weighty allegation

“The former Minister has spoken up. She mentioned how they met and gave him the money. She said she has documentary evidence on papers which her lawyer signed and he signed before collecting that money.
“If he is a good citizen he should bring back that money to Nigerian treasury because he knew that this woman ran away for the sake of indictment, after stealing the Nigerian money.
“The former minister is now tired of staying in London, because the bills on her are too much, she is facing a lot of litigations there and more over she is sick, suffering from Cancer stage 2.
“She want to come back home and die in her home.
“It is good she changed her decision, hence we are calling on President Tunubu to consider her request for her to come back.”

“Those that she gave money must face the wrath of the law.
He said, a coalition of civil rights group, namely, African Youth For Conflict Resolution and prevention, Center for Conflict Resolution, Center for Human rights Defence in Africa, Nigeria Anti Coruption Crusade, International Cruption Watch Organizations and Zero Tolerance for Cruption in Nigeria will meet in Abuja on Tuesday
