Senator Ohere says he will reclaim mandate at Appeal court, expresses disatisfaction with tribunal’s ruling

The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Engineer Abubakar Ohere has described the outcome of the tribunal judgment that declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the authentic winner of the February 25 Kogi Central Senatorial election as unacceptable.

The Senator, who reacted shortly after the tribunal judgement, said the process was not completely based on the position of the law.

The Lawmaker faulted the decision of the tribunal as he insisted that the facts of the law were not properly followed

He also noted that the process was not duly followed which has prompted him to seek further legal action at the appeal court.

Senator Ohere who was recently named the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Content, said he is determined to defend his electoral victory, noting that he is confident of reclaiming his mandate.

While he urged his supporters to remain calm as he pursues the next legal option, Ohere said he will continue his legislative activities as expected at the red chamber.

The election petition tribunal sitting in Lokoja had earlier declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner of the February 25 Kogi Central Senatorial election.

The tribunal Chairman, Justice K.A. Orjiako in his ruling on Wednesday said Uduaghan scored 54,064 votes to defeat her closest rival, Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere who polled 51,291 votes.

He urged Ohere to pay Akpoti-Uduaghan N500,000 for the cost of the petition.
