DSS admits the arrest of CBN Governor, Emefiele by its operatives
The Department of State Services (DSS), on Saturday admitted its operatives have arrested Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Dr. Peter Afunanya in a statement admitted that Emefiele is now in the custody of the secret police for some investigative reasons.
The DSS however cautioned members of the public, the Media in particular to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning the development.
The arrest of Emefiele in Lagos and his being flown to Abuja happened barely 12hours President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved his suspension from office as Governor of the CBN.
Itbwas gathered that the DSS carried out a careful stealth operation that led to his arrest while attempting to flee the country through the land borders.
It was learnt that as soon as the Service got hold of Emefiele who was dressed in caftan with a native cap to match, it quickly moved him to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos into a waiting plane that flew him to Abuja.
According to the source; “Emefiele was fleeing through the land border when he was arrested last night”.
Emefiele, who was suspended on Friday by President Tinubu, was directed to handover the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Folashodun Adebisi.
Adebisi will act as the apex Bank Governor of pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms in the nation’s financial sector.
