67 senators backing my senate presidency ambition -Yari
Former governor of Zamfara State who is now senator elect and a strong contender for the position of President of the 10th Senate, Abdulaziz Yari has claimed that 67 out of the 109 Senators have declared their support for his candidacy.
A simple majority of votes is needed to win the seat.
Speaking at a media parley yesterday in Abuja, Senator Abdul Ningi, spokesman of the Yari’s campaign said the former Zamfara State governor has secured the support of 67 senators-elect.
Ningi, who will represent Bauchi Central in the 10th Senate, said there was an ongoing negotiation with the camps of senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Osita Izunaso and Sani Musa for possible alliance.
Yari’s Senate presidency, he said, would help the administration of President Bola Tinubu to move Nigeria forward when he becomes President of the upper legislative chamber.
He also said the former Zamfara governor would listen to and pursue the yearnings of Nigerians, adding that his leadership will be democratic, open and serve the interest of the masses.
Speaking further on his sterling qualities, Yari said “I have strong connections across the 36 states and understand the nuances of the nation.
He said his experience and carrier in politics on the political terrain spanned over two decades and half starting with when in 1999 he served as secretary of All Peoples Party (APP) between 1999 and 2023 after which he was elected chairman of ANPP Zamfara State in 2023.
According to him, “I later rose to the position of National Financial Secretary of the ANPP where I served till 2007 when I was elected as member representing Anka/Talatan Mafara Ferderal constituency from 2007 to 2011
“I was elected Governor of Zamfara State on the platform of ANPP when I defeated the incumbent Governor Mahmuda Shinkafi and in 2015 I was re elected.”
He said he was also elected chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum by his colleagues Governors
“I am assuring you that I have what it takes to make a difference. We will build constant synergy to unify our nation”.
He, however, said there is an ongoing negotiation with the camps of senators Orji Uzor Kalu, Osita Izunaso and Sani Musa.
