Senate Presidency: Yari continues to canvass for votes, visits NNPP

The former Zamfara governor Abdul’aziz Yari has indicated that the nation’s Constitution remains supreme in the quest to vie for the position of the President of the Senate in the 10th National assembly

Senator Yari stated this during a visit to the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP), in Abuja.

Yari who is a strong contender in the Senate Presidency race stressed that constitution of Nigeria superced any other law in the land.

“The constitution is supreme to any other law, any law that is not in tandem with the constitution is invalid” Yari stated.

He explained that he was at the NNPP to appeal to the leadership of the party to talk to it members elect to vote for him.

“We are going round to canvas for the support of the national working committee or the leadership of political parties so that they can talk to their members and they will do the right thing for Nigeria and Nigerians” he added.

“We are working together. We believe in one Nigeria. We are working together; Orji Musa, Izunaso and myself, We are going to continue with this struggle until we get there. It is not over until it is over”

“This is my first place of call. But I will also visit other parties; Labour Party, SDP PDP APGA and YPP and look for their support of their members on this project”

The former Zamfara governor who noted that seven political parties will be represented at the Senate added that every vote counts hence he won’t relent in canvassing for votes from opposition parties.

“That is to show to you that 10th Assembly is completely different that we knew that we have 7 parties, the vote of every party counts and it is critical to us”

“We are going to continue with this struggle until we get there. It is not over until it is over, the most important and encouraging thing is the president’s speech that he is going to rule Nigeria according to the constitution of Nigeria.” Senator Yari stated.

He pointed out that some people were using religion to disenfranchise credible candidates and wondered why religious critics did not speak up when David Mark and Ike Ekweremadu who were Christians were Senate and deputy senate presidents respectively.

He promised to visit the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party, Young People’s Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Social Democratic Party, to solicit their support.

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, had adopted Senator Godswill Akpabio and Jubrin Barau as preferred candidate for the position of the senate president and deputy respectively.
