The Labour Party (LP) on Monday debunked allegations that it is hobnobbing with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the forthcoming election of principal officers in the National Assembly, the party it dragged to the Election Petition Tribunal seeking to reclaim an alleged mandate stolen during the Febuary 2023 Presidential Election.

The National Secretary of the Party, Mallam Umar Farouk, spoke against the backdrop of allegations that the party may have given tacit approval for its members elect to support the APC’s anointed candidates.

Farouk spoke to newsmen at a world press conference ahead of a one-day summit for all its elected candidates organised by the Diasporans wing of the party in Abuja.

He explained that the party is still at consultation level with members elect under the party on where to pitch its tent for those who are seeking to be elected as principal officers of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

“We will partner with those willing to partner with us. But our lawmakers at the National Assembly will continue to give us updates on developments there” Farouk added.

Mallam Farouk stressed that the Party’s doors remain open to those vying for principal offices in the National Assembly for negotiations.

He said with 8 members-elect in the Senate and 35 members-elect in the House of Representatives they are minority , however he said they have given latitude to their members to make their choice in line with the party’s vision

Earlier, the Committee Chairman of the conference, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said that the conference would focus on impactful leadership and good governance, building synergies for the new Nigeria of our dream, law making, constitution and democracy, among others.

Tanko added that the gathering would enable the party to brief its legislators and governor-elect on the brand of politics that is people’s oriented.

On his part, the Chairman of Labour Party Diaspora, Hon. Amadi Chike explained that the diaspora chapters are championing the summit because they want a Nigeria that will work.

He emphasized that most diasporants want to come to country to contribute their quota towards a working nation.

Amadi further stressed that globally Nigerians are doing fantastically well and love to come back home to speak with elected members of the Labour party to give partner them in delivering people’s oriented programs.

He added that the era of sleeping at the Parliament is over and elected officials under the Labour party will represent the Nigeria People and not only their constituency.
