Outstanding upset in Zamfara as Dauda Lawal of PDP defeats Matawalle to emerge governor-elect

In what turned out to be a mindblowing overturn in the 2023 general elections, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Dauda Lawal has defeated incumbent Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle.

Lawal was declared the governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), having polled a total of 377,726 votes after he defeated Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 311,976

The announcement of his victory in Gusau the state capital came in the early hours of Tuesday.

However, there was a mild drama over the presentation of the results for Maradun Local Government Area (LGA), where it was alleged that the Collation Officer, Dr Ahmed Kainuwa, had been kidnapped.

However, upon arrival at state collation centre at the INEC headquarters in Gusau, Kainuwa gave the reasons for his delayed appearance.

”We were abducted by some enemies of democracies but we made it here Alhamdulillah”, he stated
