Groups claiming to be ADC, LP faction pledge support for Gov Sule re-election in Nasarawa
From Daniel Abel, Lafia
Ahead of the Saturday guber poll, the Governorship candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a group that is claiming to be a splinter of the Labor Party, (LP) in Nasarawa State have pledged their support for the reelection of governor Abdullahi Sule
The parties at separate press conferences promise to support the APC led administration, noting that Governor Sule has performed well enough to deserve a second term.
According to the ADC Governorship candidate Godwin Williams Alaku, the party in the State decided to move the political trajectory of Nasarawa state forward, both in terms of democratic dividends as well as developments in all area of needs in the state, hence its support for Governor Sule in the Saturday’s Governorship election.
“We have come to the realistic conclusion that the incumbent Governor, Engr AA Sule, has done well since coming into office as the Governor of the state from 2019.
“In view of that, I, Hon Godwin Williams Alaku have decided to step down as the Gubernatorial candidate of the ADC party in Nasarawa state and do hereby plead with all our teeming members of the ADC to come out en mass to vote for Engr AA. Sule. of the APC, come this Saturday.
“Nasarawa state has been tested in terms of Security, Economy and transparency in governance, in all of this, Engr. AA Sule has done tremendously well and therefore should be allowed to continue in office for the second term.
This will enable the Governor to build on the solid foundation already laid in the last three years,” he said.
However, Reverend Solomon Kuje of the LP said that his faction has disassociated itself from the decision by the governorship candidate of the LP to step down for David Ombugadu of PDP.
Rev. Solomon claimed that Joseph Ewuga, the LP governorship candidate, did not consult with the other party structure in the state and therefore was on his own.
Meanwhile the LP state Chairman Alexander Emmanuel Ombugu in a press statement made available to newsmen said that the endorsement of Sule by the faction is fake and not recognized by the Party both at the state and national level as he dissociated himself from the endorsement.
“I have been informed that the APC in the state is making frantic efforts to ensure that the electorates across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state are financially induced during the Governorship and State Assembly elections slated for March 18, 2023, to ensure victory for their candidates.
“I am also aware that the State APC have approached some of our (Labour Party) executives to prevail on the party and members of the Obidient Movement, to re-elect Governor Abdullahi Sule and other APC House of Assembly candidates during Saturday’s elections.
“I find this act of the state APC leadership funny because all residents of the state and indeed Nigerians in general are aware that our (Labour Party) Governorship candidate, Joseph Ewuga, had stepped down and announced his full support for the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, David Ombugadu.
“I also understand that the Nasarawa state APC is desperate to retain power for the next four years, but how do they intend to win the governorship election when all Governor Abdullahi Sule could do is to build two motor parks in Lafia and Karu Local Government Areas of the state.
“So, I want to warn that any of our (Labour Party) executives who joins the APC to sabotage the chances of our candidates in the coming election, will be sanctioned according to the laws of the party.
“If the APC is ready to share money to them or any of our supporters, they should collect the money and still support our candidates.”
