    Coalition urges Political Parties, Supporters to guard against distabilizing Nigeria

    As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collates results in preparation to declaring the winner of the 2023 presidential election, the National Coalition for Peace and Unity (NCPU) has charged political parties and their supporters against utterances capable of distabilizing the nation.

    The warning is coming on the heels of some utterances from politicians, who threatened that the Endsars will be a child’s play if the election doesn’t go their way.

    The Coalition that the poor masses are usually the victims of crises adding such politicians should beware of inciteful statements capable of destroying a peaceful setting.

    The Coalition, in a statement by its Protem Secretary General, Cairo Ojougboh, cautioned the public on the way they believe in the social media, adding that information from that channels should not be taken whole heartedly.

    The Coalition indicated that INEC is the only body constitutionally empowered to announce election results, warning that the public should know which report they should believe.

    “While we are cautioning the public to be watchful and filter the reports out there before drawing conclusion, it is also very important to note that false reports have a way of causing serious crisis,” the Coalition said.

    The group urged the public to be careful with what they say and try to accommodate other people’s opinion, because sentiments are high at the moment.

    “Our objective is to manage the expected post election crisis in other to secure the unity of the nation. We have been telling Nigerians to walk the part of peace, so that the nation will not engulf in flame.

    “We have during our inauguration called on the leader and elders of the land to rise and put in place all proactive measures to forestall the potential of national crisis. Now that the election is over, we are also calling them to put their feets down to forestall any untoward issue after the winner of the presidential poll has been announced,” the Coalition said.
