The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1058 corps members of the 2022 Batch C, Stream I deployed to Nasarawa state on Tuesday.
State Coordinator of the Scheme Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, made this known in his address at the swearing in ceremony held at Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state.
According to Jikamshi, at the close of registration on Friday, November 4th, a total of 1058 corps members were duly registered comprising 502 males and 556 females.
He congratulated the corps members who have come from all over the country after successfully completing their studies and making themselves available for the national service to contribute their quota to the development of the state.
He urged the corps members to participate fully in camp activities during their three weeks orientation course.
“My dear compatriots, you have come into the NYSC scheme with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. I call on you to make ample use of this training which have the potential to launch you in the path of responsible leadership.
“The scheme is designed by the founding fathers to groom youths to take leadership roles and positions in order to build a strong, peaceful, United and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
He however emphasized that the orientation camp is highly regimented hence the need for corps members to participate in every activity on camp among which are lectures, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program, drills, sports and other activities.
“These activities are meant to develop your unique capabilities to be able to face and conquer challenges in the larger society. So don’t be a passive onlooker but be actively involved and contribute your quota to the success of the orientation course,” he added.
The NYSC Coordinator also urged all Corps Employers in the state who have requested the services of the corps members to prepare adequately to receive them at the close of the orientation exercise on Tuesday, November 22nd.
“Adequate arrangements should be made regarding their transportation of corps members to their various organizations, provision of accomodations and other necessary supportive facilities that would help the corps members to fully integrate into their various employments,” he said.
He thanked invited guests, especially the Chief Judge of Nasarawa state, Hon. Justice Aisha Aliyu represented by Hon. Justice Isa Kana for gracing the occasion and swearing in the corps members.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Opeolowa Amusan, a corps member said he felt honoured and privileged to serve and would everything possible to make a difference in his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).
“I feel really great been here because the journey has not been easy but been here is something that everyone looks up to and I am honoured. It’s a privilege,” he said.
