Dam Collapse in Jigawa: Haya Community solicits FG urgent Attention

Haya community in Gwaram- local government area of Jigawa state has appealed to the Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority (HJRBA) to reconstruct Haya Dam which had collapsed since the last three days as a result of over flow of water
The communities made the call in a press statement by the community leader, Malam Muhammadu Lawal Ibrahim in Dutse, Jigawa state.
He said “The Dam was constructed by the federal government through Hadejia/Jama’are River Basin Authority 12 years ago, which has improved the economy of the people in the area.
According to the statement “The Dam collapsed as a result of heavy downpour and over flow of the water from the water sources of the Dam making the embankment to collapse with water spilling out of the Dam”
Malam Muhammadu Lawal Ibrahim added that the spilled over water also flooded and destroyed thousands of hectares of farmlands, farm produce.
The statement further explained that when the people in the area observed the sign of the problem of the collapsing Dam, they had raised the alar for the authorities to take actions.
He said the Dam had changed the social and the economic lives of the people in the area especially the benefit of dry season farming.
The Communities called on the HJRBA to without further delay reconstruct the Dam for the next dry season farming, “because the farmers have lost all their rainy season farm products to the floods.
