President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday requested the Senate to confirm Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
His appointment as acting CJN earlier happened after the immediate past CJN Tanko Muhammed resigned his position on health grounds.
Buhari’s request is coming exactly one month after the former CJN resigned

Buhari’ request was contained in a letter read at Tuesday plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

According to the President the confirmation request was in line with constitutional provisions and urged the Red Chamber to consider his request in the usual expeditious manner.

Justice Ariwoola has been acting as the CJN following the retirement of his predecessor, Justice Tanko Muhammad.
