2023: Group urges Nigerians to shun politics of religion, ethnicity
A group, under the aegis of Young Moms Support Initiative has urged Nigerians to shun politics of religion or ethnicity which have no direct bearing on leadership
Founder and President of the group Dr. Vivian Sonny-Nsirim.who was speaking against the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket of the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) said Religion is rather a personal thing that has to do with the way individuals choose to worship their God.
“Nigerians should be more concerned with the search for candidates who can uplift their economic standards, educational system and include more women in government.
“A candidate who has empathy for human life, who will be moved to upgrade the health system in Nigeria. A candidate who has the track record of creating job opportunities for the youth.
“We should not be distracted by religious affilliation and tribalism but should focus more on who will provide us with the basic amenities of life when elected
According to the president, the future of our children is at stake. Let us not be distracted by little things, however, we should focus on the bigger picture.
“We became members of a particular religious organisation by happenstance based on the circumstances of our birth. If we were born in India, some of us may have been into Hinduism, etc.
“We should not allow circumstances that we have no control over to distabilise us. We are more matured, educated and exposed for us to use religion as a yardstick for choosing a Leader.
