May Day: Nasarawa Speaker lauds Gov Sule for prioritizing workers welfare
Abel Abogonye, Lafia
Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Abdullahi, has commended Governor Abdullahi Sule of the State for his efforts in ensuring welfare of workers in the state.
He also lauded the governor for keeping to his promise of paying six months outstanding salary arrears to the newly recruited 496 teachers in the state.
Reports had it that since November 2021, when the newly recruited teachers were absorbed in the state government’s payroll and posted to their various places of primary assignments across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state, nothing had been paid as remuneration for their services.
The Speaker, through his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, gave the commendation in a statement made available to newsmen in Lafia on Sunday, to mark the 2022 Workers Day celebration.
He noted that the gesture of the Governor would improved the standard of living of the 496 teachers and their family members.
According to the statement, “The State Assembly under my leadership is happy that Governor Abdullahi Sule has paid the six months salary arrears of the newly employed 496 teachers. I am also happy with the prompt payment of salaries to others workers in the state.
“Our retirees are also getting their pensions and gratuities. So, I want to use the opportunity of the 2022 Workers Day celebration to express my profound gratitude to the governor for prioritizing the welfare of workers because they are the engine room of government.
“The recent employment of health workers by the Hospital Management Board is also laudable because it would help to reduce the rate of unemployment in the state.
“So, I want to assure our workers that the Assembly will continue to collaborate with the executive arm of government to ensure improved welfare packages.”
While congratulating all the workers in the state on their special day, the Speaker urged them to continue to work together as a team for the continuous growth and development of the state.
