Buhari grieves over death of 29 victims of Sokoto boat mishap
President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep grieve over the tragic death of 29 persons who lost their lives in a boat mishap in Sokoto State.
A statement on Thursday by The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity,
Garba Shehu on said that the President is deeply saddened to learn of the painful development.
The boat mishap occured in Shagari River at Gidan Magana in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to him, the President extends his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the devastating incident.
He said the President was more devastated by the news that the village head of Gidan Magana, Malam Muhammadu Auwal, lost five of his children in the mishap.
According to him, the President has sent out directives for increase safety of riverine journeys.
He said, “President Buhari directs Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority to increase ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of riverine travel in the country.
“The President, who also commiserated with the Government and people of Sokoto State, prays for the repose of the souls of the departed and divine comfort to the grieving families.”
