FUD offsets over N180m personal debt in 2021- VC

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University, Dutse In Jigawa state, Professor Abdulkarim Sabo Muhammad said he has cleared all accumulated staff claims for three years as well as unpaid promotion arrears he inherited.

The Vice Chancellor made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on his achievement in the last one year he has been in the saddle.
According to him, “In the last one year, the university has recorded a tremendous achievements in both academics, infrastructure departments.

Professor Muhammad explained that one of his greatest hurdle in the period under review was the delay in payment of staff claims adding that, “The new policy is that, staff claims are treated and cleared within five working days.”
“I met a three years backlog of unpaid staff promotion arrears, now with the efforts put in place by the Bursar between office of the Accountant-General and IPPIS office, we ensured that, staff arrears, promotion and outstanding staff salaries were paid,” he explained.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed further that “This is the first time the university was able to access 100 percent of its budget, 100 percent; overhead, capital and personnel, this is not a mean achievement”,

Part of the success story in my one year in office, the Varsity Vice Chancellor stated that, FUD was able to access N165.8m TETFUND intervention for the expansion, development and procurement of equipment for the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and many other centres of the university.

“Over 5000 books, especially on pre-clinical, over 500,000 e-resourses and 1,000 journals in different fields”.

He added that “We’ve also purchased a large number of medical journals and have equally received donations of books and other educational materials from donaor organisations”.

“We’ve also installed 100 new computers in the library so that students can access electronic information resource in form of e-books and e-journals offline, VC further disclosed.

“The university has also acquired new servers for the eight faculties and the school of post-graduate studies so that they can acess e-resourses both online and offline,” he said.

The VC stated further that the university has renovated and expanded facilities in both male and female hostels, including construction of new 100-bed capacity female hostel, which has reached ninety per cent completion.

“It is my hope that the university will take over the new hostel in two months time,” the VC added.
