Odebiyi celebrates women, describes them as bedrock of the nation
The Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Tolu Odebiyi has celebrated With women in Ogun West Senatorial District and globally as they mark the International Women’s Day (IWD).
The Media Aide to the senator Olubunmi Omo’ogun in a press statement said the International Women’s Day is a day set aside to celebrate women globally.
The day which was first celebrated by the United Nations (UN) in 1975, also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
While describing the women as the backbone of the family and the bedrock of the nation, the Ogun West Senator said women across the world deserve better opportunities, access to quality education and less prejudices in order for them to add value and do more exploits in the society.
Sen. Tolu Odebiyi who over the years has shown more than a passing interest in challenging those factors that impede social and economic progress of women had created access to quality education, access to computer trainings and provisions of various entrepreneurial skills acquisition programmes for Ogun West women and girls.
Sen. Odebiyi assured women that he will continue to preach against discrimination of women, any situation that tends to hold women back and deprivation of basic rights and opportunities.
He urged the National Assembly to urgently reconsider and approve the five (5) gender-related Bills as well as the gender and equal opportunities Bills as a way to empower the women to have equal say in the policies and decisions that affect their lives, bodies and environment.
