Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has commenced the printing and issuance of digital certificates with aesthetic appeal and security features that cannot be forged.

Prof. Marietu Tenuche, Vice-chancellor of the University disclose this at the 6th convocation ceremony and award of degrees of the university on Saturday in Anyigba, Kogi State.

Tenuche said that the development was informed by the spate of requests for verification of results issued by the university which she described as becoming “worrisome.”

According to her, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) alone has requested for the verification of over 200 Statement of Results and certificates from the institution.

“We also received a number of requests for verification from the Department of State Security (DSS) and other organisations.

“In one case, a former student who had over 20 carryovers and who withdrew voluntarily from the University had a Statement of Results that indicated he had graduated with a Second Class Lower Division”, the Vice-Chancellor said.

The development, she added, necessitated a drastic action saying that the university had therefore commenced the printing and issuance of digital certificates with security features that make them distinct.

Tenuche said that the University had placed advertisements in the print electronic Media giving 31st of January, 2022, as the deadline for validity of Statement of Results in possession of the institution’s graduates.

“All holders of Statement of Results including staff on the University’s payroll have been duly mandated through the advertisements to come for the collection of their digital certificates.

“This initiative has put to rest the long delay in the issuance of certificates which was the case before in the University.

“The digital certificate has security features that cannot be captured in case of attempted forgery”, she said.

In another development the University has entered into a partnership with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for the rehabilitation of internal roads network of the campus following approval of the University Council’s approval granted at the 58th regular meeting of the institution.

She said that the immediate result of the partnership was the rehabilitation of the 2.14 km Prince Abubakar Audu Way, stretching from the Stadium gate to Professors’ Quarters, completion of which had facilitated motoring and pedestrian convenience for the University community.

The Nigerian Pilot reports that the University graduated 20,634 Bachelor Degree including 94 in First Class category and 1,016 Post-Graduate and higher degree students from six academic sessions between 2014/2015 and 2019/2020 sessions. (Ends)
