Ndume Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Borno South, Lauds Stakeholders

Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket for Borno South after emerging as a consensus candidate through an affirmation process held at the party’s primary in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
His emergence followed the withdrawal of his main challenger, Abdullahi Askira, who stepped down voluntarily from the race in line with consultations and appeals from party leaders and stakeholders across the senatorial district.
A Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly also reportedly withdrew from the contest, further paving the way for Ndume’s unopposed return.
With this development, Ndume is positioned to contest for a fifth term in the National Assembly should he secure victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation, the former Senate Leader expressed appreciation to APC stakeholders in Borno South, party delegates, and supporters for their confidence and backing.
He commended his erstwhile opponent, Honourable Askira, for yielding to party consultations, describing his decision as a sacrifice for unity and party cohesion.
“I sincerely appreciate the elders of Borno South for their support and trust. I remain committed to serving and advancing the interests of our people,” Ndume said.
He also urged party members to remain united and focused, stressing the importance of cohesion as the APC prepares for the general elections.
