Jigawa 2023: Lamido(jnr) rattles APC with a second visit to Sankara in three weeks

The visit by the Jigawa State Peoples Democratic Party Governorship (PDP) candidate, Mustapha Lamido in the forthcoming 2023 General election to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator representing Jigawa North West Danladi Sankara for the second time in three weeks has unsettled the ruling party in the State

The fear has been that Sankara may dump the party for the rival PDP
The visit this time around in company of former Governor of the State, Saminu Turaki had further heightened the apprehension in the ruling Party’s camp that Senator Sankara may make good his alleged unspoken threats to leave the party
On Saturday evening Lamido(jnr) in company of a former Governor of the State Ibrahim Saminu Turaki visited Sankara again where they had some discussion which lasted for about three hours.

The Jigawa Gubernatorial candidate on his verified official Twitter handle declared that,
“This evening I joined the former Governor of Jigawa State H. E Ibrahim Saminu Turaki and the Senator representing Jigawa North West Danladi Sankara in a critical meeting to discuss issues about the 2023 elections and the developments in Jigawa State.”

This was happening, as NationalUpdate checks revealed that the Senator has not been attending APC campaign rallies in the State, most recently the campaigns in two Local Government areas of Malam Madori and Kaugama the Senator was conspicuously absent.
Towards the end of November Lamido(jnr) came calling at the senator’s residence in Abuja which prompted speculations that Senator Sankara was on his way out of the party.
The speculation which may not be unfounded was coming against the backdrop that the Senator had declared his dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primary election which he backed out from in May.

In May, Mr Sankara who is also chairman Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation pulled out from the primary election for Jigawa North-west Senatorial District midway.

“I resolved to withdraw from participating in the ongoing primaries of Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District due to biased and preferential actions of the state party leader (Mr Badaru), Mr Sankara said in a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the Party, Abdullahi Adamu.

“I will like to thank the people of Jigawa North-west for giving me the mandate to represent them at the red chamber on two occasions.

“For those who have supported me right from the beginning of my aspiration, I thank you all for believing in me and I hope everyone will understand this to be the will of Allah Almighty and as humans, we must accept whatever the lord designed for us,” Mr Sankara said in May while withdrawing from the senatorial race.

The many visits to Sankara in Abuja by Lamido (jnr) is a signal of political maneuverings to come in the build up to the 2023 election that promises to bring about major political shakeups in the State
