Sam Egwu, Buba Galadima, Others Lead NDC Aspirant Screening Process

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has moved to deepen its preparations for the 2027 general elections with the inauguration of a 17-member screening committee tasked with vetting aspirants seeking the party’s presidential, governorship and National Assembly tickets.
The committee, announced in a statement by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, reflects what party officials described as a strategic mix of experienced politicians, legal experts, party administrators and public intellectuals aimed at ensuring credibility in the candidate selection process.
Former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Senator, Sam Egwu, will chair the committee, while the party’s National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, will serve as secretary.
Other prominent figures on the panel include veteran politician Buba Galadima, veteran journalist Ikeddy Isiguzo, political scientist Udenta Udenta, and former Ogun APC chairman Wole Adedayo.
The committee is expected to screen aspirants for the presidency, governorship, Senate and House of Representatives positions ahead of the party primaries.
Political observers say the move signals the NDC’s intention to position itself as a serious contender ahead of 2027, especially as coalition talks and political realignments continue to reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
Party officials said the screening exercise would focus on competence, credibility and electoral viability, with the aim of presenting candidates capable of strengthening the party’s national appeal.
The committee is scheduled to be inaugurated on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
