APC Primary Tension in Ogun Raises Concern as Elegbeji Preaches Restraint

Fresh concerns have emerged over rising tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State following reports of violence during the party’s MHR primary process in parts of Sagamu Local Government Area.
The incidents, which reportedly occurred in Ward 10, Ogijo, and Ward 14, Agbowa, drew reactions from supporters of Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, who condemned the unrest and warned against actions capable of threatening party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The supporters described the violence as a setback to democratic participation, insisting that internal party contests should reflect fairness, dialogue and healthy political engagement rather than intimidation and disorder.
Speaking on the development, Ayoola-Elegbeji said the peace and stability of the Remo Federal Constituency must not be sacrificed for political ambition.
According to her, the constituency has maintained a reputation for political maturity and peaceful coexistence over the years, urging APC members and stakeholders to avoid inflammatory conduct as political activities gather momentum.
She also appealed to security agencies and party leaders to strengthen monitoring mechanisms during future exercises to prevent further breakdown of order in Ogijo, Agbowa and surrounding communities.
The development comes amid growing political realignments and heightened grassroots mobilisation within Ogun APC ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Despite the tension, supporters of the lawmaker maintained that Ayoola-Elegbeji has continued to project inclusive and development-focused leadership since emerging victorious in the August 2025 bye-election and assuming office in October the same year.
They said her emphasis on peace, constituency development and continuity of service reflects the political ideals associated with the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, whose legacy she has pledged to uphold.
