2027: Tambuwal, Lamido Step Aside as ADC Pushes Youth Takeover

Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has withdrawn from the race to return to the Senate on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, in a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tambuwal, who currently represents Sokoto South Senatorial District, reportedly stepped down after intense consultations within the party and endorsed former Sokoto commissioner, Faruk Malami Yabo, for the ticket.
In a similar move, Ibrahim Lamido also pulled out of the senatorial contest following what party insiders described as a reconciliation agreement among stakeholders.
The development is being interpreted as part of a broader strategy by the ADC to open up political space for younger politicians and reposition the party ahead of the next election cycle.
While the party is yet to announce a replacement candidate for Sokoto East, speculation has intensified that House of Representatives member, Mani Mainshinku, may emerge as the preferred choice for Sokoto Central Senatorial District.
Sources within the party said the decision by both senators to step aside aligns with ongoing efforts to promote generational transition and strengthen youth participation in elective politics across the country.
Confirming the development, ADC spokesperson in the state, Alhaji Lamir Ameen, said the party was deliberately prioritising younger candidates for legislative positions as part of its vision for political inclusiveness and national renewal.
He urged party members to close ranks and work together toward building a stronger platform capable of winning future elections.
