The Kogi State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo, has said the Supreme Court judgment nullifying the party’s Ibadan convention has reinforced the PDP’s position as a major political force in Nigeria.
Gambo stated this while reacting to the apex court ruling which upheld the earlier decision of the Court of Appeal. The judgment, delivered by a five-member panel on Thursday, saw three justices in support of the nullification while two dissented.
According to him, rather than weaken the party, the legal outcome has further exposed the PDP’s resilience and internal strength in the face of challenges.
He urged members of the party to remain united and focus on rebuilding, stressing that internal cohesion was key to repositioning the PDP ahead of future elections.
“Our party remains the one to beat in Nigeria. Nigerians are yearning for the return of the PDP because they remember the prosperity and stability experienced during our years in government,” he said.
Gambo argued that current economic and security challenges in the country have made citizens more reflective about previous administrations, insisting that conditions were more stable under PDP-led governments.
He further alleged that the party was unfairly removed from power in the past, but maintained that Nigerians now better appreciate governance differences across administrations.
Looking ahead to 2027, the Kogi PDP chairman expressed confidence that the party remains well positioned to reclaim political leadership in the state and nationally, calling on members and supporters to strengthen mobilisation efforts.
He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as efforts to stabilise the party, as well as the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led leadership structure for its role in repositioning the PDP.
Gambo praised the judiciary for what he called a courageous ruling, describing the courts as the last hope of the common man.
He urged residents of Kogi State to take part in the party’s ongoing e-registration exercise and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the PDP ahead of future political contests.
