Former NFF President Ibrahim Galadima Dies at 74

Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Galadima, is dead. He was 74.
Galadima, a towering figure in Nigerian football administration, passed away on Saturday after a prolonged illness.
In a statement, Kano Pillars FC described his death as a profound loss to the football community, paying tribute to his enduring contributions to the game.
“The Management, staff, players and fans mourn the passing of former NFF Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, who died today after a protracted illness,” the club said.
Born on February 15, 1948, Galadima played a central role in shaping modern Nigerian football. He served as head of the then Nigeria Football Association between 2002 and 2006, a period marked by structural reforms and increased international engagement.
He was widely respected for his influence in sports administration, contributing significantly to the organisation and global representation of Nigerian football.
Beyond the national stage, Galadima also served as Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, where he championed grassroots and elite sports development.
A founding figure of Kano Pillars, he was revered within the club as a statesman whose leadership helped lay the foundation for its rise in Nigerian football.
His funeral prayer is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Masallacin Waje in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
Galadima leaves behind a legacy defined by leadership, reform, and a lifelong commitment to the growth of football in Nigeria.
