44 Feared Dead as Bandits Raid Kebbi Communities, Police Launch Manhunt

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed that 44 people were killed in a coordinated bandit attack on multiple communities in Shanga Local Government Area of the state.
The affected villages—Gebe, Kalkami, Kawara, Kasoshi, Awaye, Tungar Rini, Binuwa, and Dabe—were reportedly attacked simultaneously in a series of violent incursions that left residents displaced and communities in shock.
In a statement issued on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, said security forces have since launched a large-scale clearance operation across the area to prevent further attacks and restore order.
He explained that the operation, ordered in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, targets criminal hideouts across forests, farmlands, border corridors, and remote settlements.
According to the command, additional tactical units have been deployed to the affected areas, helping to restore a measure of calm while intensified patrols and intelligence-driven operations continue.
The police also revealed that two AK-47 rifles were recovered during ongoing operations along the Illo–Kamba axis, describing it as part of early successes recorded in the crackdown on armed groups.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, urged residents to remain alert and support security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
He further called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth groups to cooperate with security agencies in efforts to stem the wave of violence and restore lasting peace to affected communities.
