Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has raised fresh concerns over what he described as a sustained pattern of threats and attacks targeting his life, warning that such actions will not deter his advocacy.
Sowore’s remarks followed claims by Harrison Ofoegbu, widely known as Ijele Speaks, who alleged the existence of coordinated efforts aimed at silencing outspoken voices.
According to Sowore, the threats are not isolated incidents but part of a long-standing pattern dating back to his days as a student activist at the University of Lagos, through Nigeria’s military era, and into the current democratic dispensation.
He alleged that over the years, he has faced multiple forms of intimidation, including alleged attacks by security operatives and repeated physical assaults. He also referenced the death of his younger brother, Felix Sowore, in 2021, which he described as suspicious, alongside claims of attempted cover-ups by state-linked actors.
Sowore further pointed to what he described as a failed attempt to target Ijele Speaks through legal and custodial processes in 2024, alleging that the move was exposed and resisted.
Framing the issue as broader than personal persecution, the activist argued that the trend reflects a wider system that suppresses dissent, targets critics, and deploys intimidation to maintain control.
Despite the alleged threats, Sowore insisted that the movement for reform and accountability in Nigeria remains undeterred.
He maintained that “the struggle has gone beyond fear,” adding that no level of intimidation or attack would halt what he described as a continuing fight for justice and national transformation.
