ADC Unveils Global Network to Strengthen Democratic Advocacy

The African Democratic Congress has announced the launch of a Special Representatives Network across key global capitals, in a move aimed at boosting international engagement and defending democratic values in Nigeria.
In a statement, the party said the initiative is designed to establish structured communication channels with influential international stakeholders, particularly in countries and institutions that prioritise democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
The development comes amid concerns by the party over what it described as a growing pattern of undemocratic practices, including alleged attempts to weaken opposition parties and restrict political participation since mid-2025.
Under the new framework, the ADC will appoint representatives in major cities such as Washington DC, London, Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa, Paris, Pretoria, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Accra, Geneva, and New York. These envoys will serve as official liaisons with foreign governments, legislative bodies, international media, and democracy-support organisations, as well as Nigerian diaspora communities.
According to the party, the representatives will provide regular briefings on Nigeria’s political climate, covering issues such as governance, electoral integrity, human rights, and alleged pressures on opposition actors. They will also communicate the ADC’s policy positions and reform agenda to the international community.
As part of the initiative, the party is also establishing a National Documentation Programme to systematically track and report incidents affecting political participation across the country. This includes alleged cases of harassment, violent attacks, arbitrary arrests, and disruptions of political activities.
Signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the statement described the move as a strategic effort to strengthen the party’s global presence and ensure that international partners receive balanced and credible information about Nigeria’s political environment.
The ADC said the initiative underscores its ambition to position itself as a credible democratic alternative, committed to accountability, constitutional governance, and the protection of opposition rights.
