FG Declares March 19, 20 Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The announcement was conveyed in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani. She stated that the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, urging them to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice imbibed during the fasting period.

He also called on Nigerians across all faiths to use the festive period to pray for the country’s peace, unity, and continued progress.

While wishing Muslims a joyful celebration, the minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and remember the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity.

The statement reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
